                                                       MY COMMITMENT TO ASHAROKEN

1.Treat all residents and employees with respect, dignity and equality. Encourage alternate and differing opinions on village matters to reach best practice solutions to problems.  You are my neighbor and I will treat you accordingly.

2. Create open and transparent village government where issues are discussed at board meetings. Initiate an official Asharoken web site where residents can access important village documents.

3.Return the village to a culture of volunteerism and resident participation. Have the village attorney handle legal matters only, instead of being an $80,000 per year Village general manager. This change will save  tens of thousands of dollars per year by transferring non-legal duties to volunteer residents.

4. Prioritize efforts to replenish and restore the beach. Specifically, making sure the Army Corps enforces its permit on National Grid, requiring the placement of an average of 15,000 cubic yards of sand per year, as well as working toward a long term complete beach restoration.

5.Renovate or rebuild Village Hall in an affordable and sensible way. Design the structure to have solar electric energy and geothermal heating and cooling saving the village thousands of dollars in utility costs per year. Rely upon expert village residents to spearhead this design at no cost to Asharoken.

6.Negotiate a new police contract with a balance between providing for our present officers and an eye to the future ensuring an affordable police department for years to come.

7. Ensure fiscal responsibility with efforts focused on the lowest tax increases commensurate with maintaining our Asharoken lifestyle.  Seek a resolution of the Morgan property agricultural change without going to court.

8.Resolve the drainage problem at the corner of Bevin Road and Asharoken Avenue.  Immediately remove the dangerous wooden caps on the seawall.

9.Preserve and protect the ecology of our village. Asharoken’s pristine beaches, tidal wetlands, 165 species of birds, seals, deer and other mammals need us to be stewards of our environment.

10.Encourage our community spirit by supporting the 4th of July fireworks, pot luck dinner, Save the Fireworks/Holiday Party and Santa’s visit. Add a new residents tea to welcome and meet our new neighbors. Bring back our community focused news letter.
